Book Travels

I read a lot of romance, but paranormal books are also one of my many catches, this year I developed a love/like for erotica, so they are definitely something to look at, between not because of 50 shades. I blog bout a year and discovered many of those awesome new debuts on the blogosphere.

Paranormal Review: Father Mine by JR Ward
Father Mine: Zsadist and Bella's Story A Black Dagger Brotherhood Novella - J. R. Ward

This novella was super cute. Zsadist and Bella are one of my favorite couples in this series and ever since we saw she got pregnant, and how dangerous these moments are for vampires, things changed a little in their relationship. We can see Zsadist more concerned with Bella but talking less about their life. Nalla was born in the end of the previous book and everything looked perfect, but reading this story is clear to me that Zsadist needed more time to understand the new reality and his fears are still very close to the surface, so it took him some difficult moments.

I loved this new glimpse in their life together. I think we could have more insights like this for the other couples, since we lose touch with them as this series grow.

Romance Review: A December Bride by Denise Hunter
A December Bride - Denise Hunter

I love marriage romances. There's always something too sweet to end a romance novella with a wedding and celebration. So when I found this series on NetGalley my first though was the pretty cover. Loved the colors and the flowers and so rich. I understand that in the US a wedding in december is all about the winter wonderland with lots of snow. The story made possible for us to fall in love with Layla and Seth.

Seth was a great guy and I could not understand the reason for Layla to hate him so much when the guilt person was her ex-fiance. Seth was only the best-friend and had no idea about the affair with Layla cousin. So for me the drama should be only about the affair, but in the middle of everything Seth was considered guilt from Layla POV, only because he did nothing and neither told her about it.

I loved the sweet way he treated her and tried to change her anger. I don't understand why her family let her be treated that way, but Seth was perfect and I loved seeing those two together, when he got the idea to pretend a marriage I was super on his side.

Paranormal Review: Lover Enshrined by JR Ward
Lover Enshrined - J.R. Ward

Phury was never my favorite and this time I was more focused on the side stories than on his. Cormia is a little to nice for Phury, I think he needed someone like Xhex to control him better, especially now that he became an addict. I loved Quinn and John learning more about their new life "together". Those scenes with Lash were a little intense but worth it. We can clearly see the war is changing and those lessers are becoming more dangerous now that a leader has arisen.

So to me this book deserves a good rating for the developments in the series more than for the leading couple. We can see Rehvenge being important in this story and even Torh returning. So the book is huge and there's a lot going on but we are never lost and that is something very important to me.

Mystery Review: Haunted in Death by JD Robb
Haunted in Death (In Death, #22.5) - J.D. Robb, Susan Ericksen

This was a fast novella and strange too. Eve had to discover the killer of those people, one was buried in the building 85 years ago, so the second murder was a connection for sure. Roarke believes in the rumors about a ghost and the building was haunted, so they had a little problem in agreeing sometimes, but that's a side of their relationship that I love. They are not perfect and both realise the moments to trust in your partner. The murders for me was too simple, but I loved Eve and Roarke making up.

Mystery Review: Memory in Death by JD Robb
Memory in Death - J.D. Robb

This story was a little boring for me but I finished extremely fast. The bad guy for me was obvious and Eve had a gut feeling about it since the beginning, but I loved the christmas setting and to see her better in exchanging gifts. Roarke as always went overboard, but Eve learned to pick the right things for the people she considers family, even the cat got a present!

The mystery was closer to Eve because some woman decided to show up and blackmail Roarke, the problem was the woman died during her stay and of course Eve had to investigate to put peace in her mind mostly. I loved Roarke taking her side and even some scenes with Bobby, the victims son, because they have a past together. The woman was a foster parent of Eve after she was found in Texas, but she was not a great mom and Eve suffered a lot. I liked the ending and thought it was actually fitting, but could do better with those suspects.

Mystery Review: Origin in Death by JD Robb
Origin in Death - J.D. Robb

This was a tough story for Eve. She had to discover the killer of some hotshot doctor, but at the same time Roarke decided to invite his family for Thanksgiving. I love Roarke and during this book was the first time for me to see him a little nervous, he was scared and way to obsessed with the holidays, but he still helped Eve during those most difficult moments.

I loved the story, super different and a total match with the timing of this book. Since this series take place in the near future and almost everything is man-made. I had a pretty clear idea of the person responsible and that Eve would be on her side. She always consider people who suffered like her the victim, and tries to help most of the time. I loved her little trouble with Mira, makes things between them more family like for me. And Roarke family was hilarious.

Urban Fantasy Review: This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
This Side of the Grave - Jeaniene Frost

My first read of the year and I rushed to finish, I liked the story but the end was a little to easy, the bad was a little soft and didn't put much of a challenge. We could see the changing from the previous books and it was predictable to see those ghouls were up to something bad pretty soon. In this book we can see Cat and Bones trying to stop the murder of vampires. Those ghouls are following some stories that Cat could kill them all.

I liked two things from this story, we have more Vlad and all those friends decided to help. Mencheres has changed a lot since Kira became his new boo and we could see a different and more soft side of him in this book. Spade also changed, but only because now life is really dangerous for Denise and he's always worried. For me the friends and all those funny moments made this book so much fun.

Paranormal Review: Lover At Last by JR Ward
Lover at Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #11) - J.R. Ward

I had this book on pre-order but for some reason I never got to read this one, the series is huge and I was a little confused about the stories since the previous ones. But this book is huge and I rushed until the end. Everybody loved so I knew what to expect, but for me the ending was a little rushed and Quinn was staying on the same house as Blay, but for some reason or another these two could not find an understanding and talk like normal people.

I liked getting to know more about Assail, he sounds like a great guy and a little like Rehvenge to me, but Sola was boring and I could not understand why Assail was so interested in the girl. Another great side story to me was the Shadows moving into the Brotherhood house, we have some very nice plot for the future.

By the way I like Layla and she was super sweet with Quinn. I still can't believe she's pregnant with Quinn's baby, but she's handling everything with grace. Loved the book.

Mystery Review: Salvation in Death by JD Robb
Salvation in Death (In Death, #27) - J.D. Robb
For me these stories always look similar but this time we had the first murder and a second one looking like a serial killer, but Eve was super smart and discovered that in reality the second was just a copycat. Different because usually her investigations are related homicides, but this time she had a difficult time discovering the reason to kill a priest.

Eve had a difficult time with the religion part, mostly because she just doesn't understand the cult and some rules, but Roarke was helpfull and she even got the help of a priest trying to do the right thing. For me the investigation was nice and the end during the interrogation Eve showed why she's the best.

Mystery Review: Ritual in Death by J.D. Robb
Ritual in Death - J.D. Robb

The story was fast, but I liked the different ritual and of course Eve discovered super fast the responsibles and managed to get a confession. It's usually fun to see Eve all bored with parties and following Roarke because she needs too. Loved this novella.

Romance Review: Sheikh's Scandal by Lucy Monroe
Sheikh's Scandal (Harlequin PresentsThe Chatsfield) - Lucy Monroe

Another new series and I loved this couple. Both are super easy to understand in fears, changes and the worry about the future. But I liked the way Sayed treated everyone with class. I also liked the way he treated Liyah, even after the crazy night when they forgot a condom and his world was pretty much upside down, we can see he's sincere and honest with her.

His parents are perfect and they these were meant to be, after the way Liyah father treated her and she was a little upset with her mother too because of lies, Sayed parents brought a breath of fresh air and so much needed love. These two were perfect together and they made such a cute couple.

Romance Review: An April Bride by Lenora Worth
An April Bride - Lenora Worth

I was disapointed with this book because Stella and Marshal were not likable to me and everything they did rubbed me wrong. She had trouble understanding his difficulties after years serving his country, but he lost his memory and has no idea who she is.

Another problem for me was the rush to the wedding when he was just now getting his life back together and trying really hard to connect the dots in his glimpses of the past. I don't think this was the right time for start a new life together. I understand they were planning and loved each other before, but a little time waiting wouldn't hurt anyone. Stella seemed lost in everything and didn't help.

So this book was not for me.

Erotica Review: Chosen by the Wolves by Cara Adams
Chosen by the Wolves [Werewolf Brides 5] (Siren Publishing Menage Everlasting) - Cara Adams

This series was losing the spark for me and I almost gave up, but the books are short so it was easy to fit one during the week. I actually had a nice surprise with this final one, mostly because of Cooper, we've been hearing a lot about him and this time we got to see more of him in action and it was nice seeing him outside having fun.

Siyandra was a nice girl, but a little bland for me. The book was all about the guys and how they finaly bought the BDSM club in town and managed to get rid of the mean bastard slaving the girls. Nate and Justin were great with Siyandra and they welcomed Cooper super well. I liked the shorty story.

Paranormal Review: Mine to Possess by Nalini Singh
Mine to Possess - Nalini Singh

Clay was never my favorite but I have a sfot spot for the cats, they are more sexy and now exactly what to say and get the girl, but Talin was a good surprise because she's human, but not 100% percent, so things were difficult with this couple at first and they had a past as friends.

Talin only returned because she needs the help of Clay, but I liked seeing them together. And I think Clay needed her so bad, he was nearly giving in to his animal side and she brings passion and possession that made it possible to keep grounded.

Nearly in the end we have Dorian helping and I have the feeling his story will be very soon.

Romance Review: Beauty and the Best Man by Maureen Child
Beauty And The Best Man - Maureen Child

This was a shorty but good story, I liked the fact we got to see time pass and their feelings change, because is usually strange when then happen to fast in novellas. Kayla was a nice girl and I liked her, she's sure and very secure of herself, but Matt was a bit of an ass during almost all the story. He ran and after he returned things didn't changed much, but he was like a stalker, following her everywhere until they came to terms with their reasons to break apart and found a middle term to continue a relationship.
